This article contains lore based on real-life sources fromNorse mythologyas introduced from the God of War Norse era.

“ Sweet Nanna's nethers!”

― Brok to Kratos

Nanna (Old Norse: Nana), also known as Nanna Neprsdóttir (Translation: Nanna, Daughter of Nepr) is the Norse Goddess of Joy, Devotion, Peace and Loyalty. She is the daughter of Nepr and Nofn.

Although she doesn't make any appearance in-game, she is mentioned for the first time by Brok in God of War (2018). Nanna is likely living among her fellow Aesir gods in the Great Lodge. It is assumed she survived Ragnarök and later settled in Vanaheim with the other survivors.

Norse Mythology

In Norse mythology, Nanna Nepsdóttir, or simply Nanna, is a goddess associated with Baldr. In the Prose Edda by Snorri Sturluson, Nanna is Baldr’s wife, and the couple has a son, Forseti. After Baldr is killed, Nanna dies of grief. She is placed on Baldr’s funeral ship, which is set aflame and pushed out to sea.

When Hermóðr rides to Hel to seek Baldr’s return, Nanna gives him gifts to deliver to the living: a linen robe for Frigg, a finger-ring for Fulla, and other unspecified items. Hel agrees to release Baldr if all beings in the Nine Realms weep for him, but the giantess Thökk (believed to be Loki in disguise) refuses, so Baldr and Nanna remain in Hel until Ragnarök.

Nanna is mentioned in skaldic poetry and appears briefly in the Poetic Edda, though details about her there are limited.

In the God of War Series
